Hey there! πŸ˜„

How are you doing? It's been a long time since the last issue of The Creator Tribe, but after Twitter shutdown their newsletter platform early this year, I was a bit hesitant to pay for another platform. 😬

However, I miss writing on a weekly basis and sharing with you some of the things I am learning about entrepreneurship, productivity, and content creation.

So, here I present to you the new issue of my newsletter!!! πŸŽ‰

Okay, without further ado, let's talk about followers and what they really represent.

Relationship-Based Model vs Interest-Based Model

I've spent almost ten years using social media and although, I only recently started using these platforms for my startups, I've noticed a big shift in the way social networks treat their users and their users' content.

In the early days, the relationships between users was the core of most social networks. The perfect example is the early version of Facebook were the whole purpose of the site was to let you stay connected with your friends and family. Hence, the word relationship in relationship-based model. πŸ”—

However, your friends and family might not exactly post the most interesting type of content. And that's a challenge when you are trying to keep the people on your site for longer.

TikTok understood that better than anyone else and started developing an app to show you only the content that resonate with you the most. So, if you are into macro photography, the algorithm is going to select mostly videos about that topic with the likely effect of keeping you on their app longer.

So, what does the adoption of this new interest-based model mean for creators?

Well, it means that the metrics for success have changed. It's not anymore about getting the most followers or likes, but it's about getting people to engage with your content. Therefore, the new key metrics are click-through rate, video retention, and saves/bookmarks.

Great, but practically, what should I, as a creator/entrepreneur, do in order to be successful online? πŸ€”

  • Short answer: Build and take care of your community.
  • Long answer: Treat every piece of content as an independent unit that has to resonate with your audience. If you do so, the algorithm will push your content and there is a chance that it goes viral and reach a lot of users, some of whom may then decided to follow you. But, as you guessed it, followers won't necessarily see your new videos. Therefore, it is crucial to create good content if you want to reach a lot of people.

So, before I leave you to the best stuff of the week, let me share with you a few strategies to create good content that I am either using or consider adopting.

  1. Create content that resonates with a specific audience/niche.
  2. Create engaging content that is informative, entertaining, or valuable to your target audience.
  3. Experiment with different media formats (e.g. images, videos, articles, or podcasts) and focus on the one that works with your audience.
  4. Utilize relevant hashtags/keywords in your content (e.g. in the script, caption, description, etc.)
  5. Engage with communities, groups, or forums related to your niche.
  6. Follow and interact with the influencers/experts in your niche and follow their accounts.
  7. Be Consistent!
  8. Monitor the performance of your content (e.g. reach, engagement, etc.) and use this data to understand what resonates with your audience.
  9. Collaborate with other creators, influencers, or experts in your niche.
  10. Stay up-to-date about the latest trends, news, and developments in your niche to create timely and relevant content.
  11. Engage with your audience/community by responding to comments, messages, and inquiries.

I hope this list helps you grow your social media presence and I encourage you to try new things... who knows? Maybe you even come up with a better list.

If you do, please do not hesitate to let me know on Twitter or Instagram. πŸ˜‰
